Tell us why you chose to come to Simple Body?
Pure and simple…. I wanted a kick start. Summer was coming and I needed to do something. I was 40lbs. over weight, never felt more physically, mentally and emotionally down on myself in my entire life,and it was all due to the fact that I hadn’t taken care of myself.
I needed to be held accountable. Knowing that I had to answer to someone weekly other than myself, I felt it may give me the motivation to stick to eating well and monitoring my day to day food activities.
How would you describe your weight gain? Was it gradual or a result of a particular incident?
I was 220 lbs. for most of my adult life. I had a major job change that put me into restaurants daily and a hectic schedule that I didn’t know how to manage when it came to an eating schedule. I gained 50 lbs over 2 years so it was gradual within reason. I am tall at 6’5” so the weight gain wasn’t ever super obvious. One day I jumped on the scale and thought to myself, enough is enough!
What other diets had you tried in the past and what were the results?
Nothing specific, I knew the right foods to eat and I tried to do the best that I could. I never could get a handle on hidden calories in restaurants, thinking I was making good choices, but really self-sabotaging without even knowing it. I have never tried specific diets such as Atkins etc. Just tried to do it myself and never had great results, 5 lbs. up/down, but nothing like I experienced with Simple Body.
What were the challenges you faced in starting our diet? How did you overcome them?
I didn’t actually have many challenges; it was way easier than I ever thought it was going to be. I was really surprised on the will power that I actually had. The first 3 days was hell, but I knew that going into it. I remember that after the 5 th day, I jumped on the scale and BOOM, 5 lbs. down! Seven days in and I was down 12 lbs. WHAT? That was easy, almost as easy as putting it on. The challenges were small based on the fact that I was seeing results, as the number goes down, I was way more inclined to stick to it, and not screw it up. Plus all the compliments were driving my will power and I knew someone other than me was SEEING results. Huge motivator!
As you moved through the diet, how did you feel? What were some of the good points and what were some of the bad points?
As mentioned above, the compliments were great, certainly it’s an ego boost, though always funny how everyone mentions how much you have lost, but no one is ever there to tell you how much you have gained! May have started this earlier if I had a reality check! Diet was SUPER easy, worked well with my day to day life and was able to maintain it without too many cheats.
Bad points for me were just the pure repetitiveness of the diet. I felt like I was eating the same things day in and day out. Though I wasn’t depriving myself of taste, it was just kind of boring to eat. The fact that I am not the greatest cook probably didn’t help the situation. Food and meals for me became a fuel source, not something that I actually enjoyed. Socializing was challenging, but I found that I started to motivate the people around me without being the PREACHER that overweight people tend to get frustrated with ( I know I did).
What goals or achievements did you reach as you lost weight? Why were they significant (ie. Got back into your wedding dress, reached a goal weight)
My goal wasn’t too specific, I wanted to feel better, I wanted to be able to take my shirt off at the beach, and I wanted to be able to hike a mountain without wanting to pass out after km #1. It wasn’t too long into the program that I started to feel more confident. I knew I was starting to look better, I know I was feeling better. Resting heart rate was dropping, I could feel it becoming easier to do my activities, and I had WAY more energy on my day to day! Though I didn’t have goals at the beginning, the more I moved through the program, the more I wanted to stick with it because I was seeing significant changes, physically, mentally and emotionally.
If someone was considering this diet what would you tell them?
“Balls to the wall”. I wouldn’t start the program if you aren’t 100% mentally ready to change your lifestyle. It takes will power and the ability to say no. That’s the hardest thing to overcome, the hunger pains are temporary! It’s amazing what our bodies can do if we treat them with the respect they deserve. Rick and his team are amazing coaches and guide you through the process 100%. If you want results, this program WILL deliver, but it’s just a tool, you have to do the work!
How are you doing now? Are you keeping your weight off? How do you feel?
It’s been 5 weeks since I have been off the program and transitioned into everyday life. (Sounds like I was prison, I promise you it’s not like that.) My biggest struggle is getting out of my head. I keep thinking that if I splurge that I am going to put my weight back on. It took me a couple weeks to start to enjoy food again, understanding that if I have a piece of cake; it’s not going to ruin all my hard work. I have gained about 3 lbs. since I have been off, but still feel really good. I understand portion control better, what foods to put into my body and how to react if I want to indulge one day. I know now that I have made a life change and really it’s not that hard if you “want it”.
